I Loved This Fan So Much I Bought Four – Trial Antivirus Software Critique

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

First of all, the Norton software makes my computer extremely slow to boot up, and I have a relatively new PC with lots of memory and CPU power. I try to open a browser, and I am not kidding I have sat and waited as long as 45 – 90 seconds before I could get a browser to open because there is so much memory being used from scanning going on in the background behind the scenes. Like 2010, this version is easy to use, idiot-proof, and worth every penny. It updates the antivirus definitions automatically, its default settings are not annoying in the least, and it scans automatically when your system isn’t being used.

I’m sure it grabs some resources, but in today’s era of high-powered personal computers, it’s not a problem. I’m glad I bought it.

These are very vanilla systems with almost nothing installed on them. The web sites that have crashed are not consistent and by no means dangerous sites. I hear Norton Ghost is just as flakey.

I also like the 3 PC capabilities. This is the second edition of Norton Security Suite that I have purchased from Amazon.

You can have as much, or as little, control as you want. I went through the default settings after installation and the only change I made was to not delete tracking cookies. For instance, it tells me if a particular program (like Firefox or Explorer) is hogging up an unusual amount of memory. It adds a “reputation” scan to determine the reliability and trustworthiness of your existing programs.

Amazon’s price was so good, and the “free partial featured products” don’t make sense. This one is the best so far. Unfortunately, their removal tool removes all history, settings, and worst of all, all quarantined files. In the brief period that the product worked before saying that it had expired, it moved four files into quarantine. I had been shopping Costco, Staples, Office Depot and Walmart. Amazon had the best price! The caveat is choose wisely, not all software is compatible and you may experience conflicts. Add Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware to NIS for a more confident internet experience.

However, after internet upgrade, you can enter the license code from the disc to extend the license for another year (just before your license period expires). I am not sure exactly how this all works, but you could try that.

I find this Norton’s Internet Security not only thorough but it runs quickly and is very user friendly. Then I got the Norton and replaced the McAfee and what a difference. Getting a bad disc was a pain but Norton took care of it. Also like to say that I have never had a virus or break-in of my computers since using it.

That first year, I bought it from Norton directly, and since they had my credit card, they defaulted me to auto-renewal. Sensitive Stomach Dog Food.

Why The United States Patriot Act Damages Everyone’s US Civil Liberties

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

More than a few groups of critics have staged campaign against the extension of the PATRIOT Act. Scheduled in February this year, the voting would be the deciding factor whether the bill would continue to exist. Two-thirds of the House members ought to vote YES so that the H.R. 514 could run for an additional period. This move is seen as fast tracking the method in order to obtain decisive results.

Contentions have been aired questioning the manner the bill would be extended. One point that was raised was that there have been no significant reforms to the old law that would warrant its extension. According to critics, there is no provision for supervision and responsibility. If ever, it is incredibly weak and would not hold water.

Proposals were presented and debates were finished last year. Checks and balances had been among the areas that were debated on. It is said that the new planned version is complete of these provisions. The bill did not meet the deadline for revisions as the debates went especially slow. The initial extension was accepted in February last year. There is an additional proposal to extend it until February of this year. There was also an understanding to resolve the concerns ahead of giving another extension.

Another renewal is about to be proposed as February 2011 starts. This means that there would be no PATRIOT reforms that would transpire. The proposal is to extend the bill’s life until December 8, 2011. However, as what previously occurred, there would nevertheless be no debate. As anticipated, no one could have the opportunity to propose amendments to enhance the bill.

What seems so “scary” with reference to the bill? Well, it is said that innocent citizens might be subjected under surveillance. Section 215 of the bill empowers the government to acquire secret court orders. This can be used to get into private data such as internet, phone and business records.

Foreign intelligence wiretaps could be allowed under this law. Any person possibly will be wiretapped, even those without relationship to any foreign power or terrorist group. Any mobile phone number, email account or other communications facility can be accessed whenever government “feels” there is a need to do so.

Critics say those are the provisions that must not be incorporated in the renewal. Real reforms should be done in order for it to be meaningful. Extra checks and balances ought to be included; weak points ought to be removed. This could be done if debates are permitted. This is the only way to make certain that civil liberties are upheld.

Spyware Cease Is The Only Form Of Security That I Will Use For My Computer

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Spyware cease is incredible software for your computer. It scans over your entire system to remove things that could threaten your computer such as viruses and any other malicious wear.

This software has the ability to removed viruses such as Trojan horses, and also removes things such as adware, cookies that track your progress while you are the internet, and anything else that may end up harming your system. Everyone is aware of the risks they take when they log onto the internet without any software to prevent disruptive files from coming through. This was my main concern when I decided to purchase the software for my computer.

I utilize my computer for all of my finances as well as for my main source of income. However, one day I realized my computer was running extremely slow. I was excessively getting overloaded with pop-ups whenever I opened a web page. Plus I had nothing to protect me from man made viruses that could inadvertently cause my computer to crash.

A family friend led me onto the spyware cease software, she told me about what great things it had done for her computer in removing infected areas, and completely eliminating pop-ups. The cost was the first thing that popped into my mind. So I was baffled to find that the company actually allows you to commence in a free trial of the software before purchasing it.

I immediately downloaded the essential software, and since then my computer has been running at optimum levels, and I have no fears about outside viruses barging their way onto my computer. The staff at the company was extremely helpful, and led me through the set up process.

The software was up and running on my computer in no time flat. Plus I can rest easy that if I am not pleased with the way the software is running there is a 100% money back guarantee. This software is definitely a winner in my eyes.

Every site that I go to is scanned by the incredible software to assure that it is safe to visit. I still get to go to my regular sites with ease, but now I don’t have to worry about something unexpectedly slipping through the cracks of my system. I get up to date emails from the technical department if ever I have a question or ailment concerning anything that has to do with the product. Who could ask for anything more?

Spyware cease has definitely caused my internet worries to cease. I can now surf the net, its faster and I don’t have to worry about pop-ups or viruses seeping through. This product is definitely a one of a kind type thing. The price was competitive and the software is better then anything I have ever utilized in the past.

What You Must To Do To Stay Secure On The Internet

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Lately there was a world wide symposium held, and in its audience were leaders of technology from all over the world. A group that was interested in the expansion of technology in the past century paid for it, as they were interested in the best of the best inventions. Their goal was to try and mold public policy and public opinion in a direction that would be beneficial to everybody invovled.

After much debating and point making and eloquent arguments from various different people from various different places, the answer was clear. In the past century, the greatest, most useful and most broadly used technological discovery is the Internet. The Internet exists today in virtually every country on the globe, despite only being “invented” just a few decades before. No other invention has spread so quick, to so many folks.

The reasons that Internet is so powerful, popular, and useful are many. Academic researchers use to improve their studies and share information with their colleagues. Commerce leaders and politician use it to hook up with their constituents and patrons one a one on one level. The standard surfer, just like you and me, is always finding innovative ways to use the Internet for our entertainment needs.

However, this illustrious group of scientists pointed out that with massive advancements and capabilities of the Internet, there is still a large amount of risk when you connect to the Internet. Just like in the days of the wild west, there are very few rules and regulations. This makes it relatively easy for companies and individuals to make and propagate software without the best intentions.

Adware, spyare and other malicious software is an illustration of the terrible things you can find on the Internet. They are awful because they offer absolutely no value to you whatsoever, but they can quickly sap your computer’s resources, making it nearly impossible to even send a text message. If you’ve ever downloaded one of these rogue programs by accident, you know how absolutely terrible and exasperating they can be.

The good news is that there are several programs designed to combat these evil entities. Anti virus programs are quickly becoming just as necessary as a dead bolt on the front door of your house or apartment. Regular updates will keep your computer safe and sound, and your Internet experience fund and beneficial, just the way it was meant to be.

The Power And Menace Of The Internet

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

If you took a survey of the most influential historians today to find out their opinion on the greatest invention in the history of humanity, they would likely agree that the Internet is high up on the list, if not number one. The Internet will likely go down in history as one of the true turning points in social interactions.

The Internet is so popular and useful for many reasons. People can find vast sources of easy entertainment online. You can catch up on the latest episodes of “Lost” or can simply join a group of like minded people and share your viewpoints. Surfing the ‘Net has become a national pastime, with more and more handheld devices being specifically designed to tap this powerful resource.

From a professional standpoint, the Internet is fast becoming the preferred tool in any businesses arsenal. It was only a few years ago that having a web site was even an option for any business that hoped to enjoy financial success. Today it is an absolute necessity. Not to mention the vast uses of the Internet for public servants, and academic researchers. The Internet has truly made its place in common society.

However, all is not roses and ice cream. Just like in the natural world, there are parasites that want to sneak in, steal resources without giving anything in return. In the world of the Internet, these are commonly referred to as malicious software, and come in two basic varieties.

The first kind is the worst. These spread from computer to computer like locusts, destroying everything in their path. Malicious software, or malware, wants nothing more than the destruction of your data. The second variety, while not as destructive, can be just as troublesome. These are commonly referred to as adware or spyware, and seek to exploit your personal information for financial gain.

The good news is that there are plenty of programs out there designed specifically fight against these evil entities. They search your computer and remove them, and effectively put up barriers that keep them from re entering. If you don’t have an anti spyware software program, it is highly advised that you do so. The sooner you do this, the quicker you’ll be able to surf the Internet in peace.

Want To Make Your Slow Computer A Bit Faster? Try This Out.

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

If you want to make your slow computer faster, then tuning your virtual memory would be a great place to start. You see, your hard drive is that place that your computer stores files like videos, picture etc… Your RAM on the other hand is the place that your computer’s programs work in. Its basically like a temporary working area. It’s a great system, but when your RAM gets full your computer has two choices: it can either tell you that you cannot open any more programs or it can find a new place to be used as the temporary working place. This is where virtual memory comes into play. Virutal memory is space on your computers hard drive that will be used the same way that your computer uses RAM

The name for this space on your hard drive is called a Paging File and is what you need to “tune” if you want to make your slow computer a bit faster. Your paging file is designed to be two different sizes that it moves in between: the Initial Size and the Maximum Size. Since these two sizes are constantly changing it causes your paging file to work inefficiently. All you have to do is to just make your paging file the same size and it will help you make your slow computer faster. Here’ what to do:

For those of you using Windows XP, click on the Start button, right click on My Computer and then select the Properties option. Now click on the Advanced tab at the top and then look under the little section that says Performance. Here is where you are going to click on the Settings option. When the window appears, click on the Advanced tab and under the Virtual Memory section, click on the Change option. Now look under the part where it says “Drive [Volume Label]” and make sure that your C: is selected (it should now be highlighted blue if you have selected it). Look under the Page file size for selected drive and select Custom Size.

Where it says “Total page file size for all drives section” look at the amount that says Recommended. What ever number it says is recommended, type that into both boxes where it says Initial Size and Maximum Size. Click Set and then Ok. Then Click Apply on the next window and OK.

If you are a Windows Vista user, start off by clicking Start. Now click on the Control Panel icon and on the left hand side make sure Classic View is selected. Double click on the System icon and on the left side of the window, click on the Advanced System Settings. Select the Advanced tab in that window and then under the small section that is labeled Performance just click on Settings. A new window should appear so just click on the Advanced tab and under the irtual Memory section, click on Change. Now uncheck the “Automatically manage paging file size for all drivers”. Pay attention to the area that says “Drive [Volume Label]” and make sure that C: is selected so that it is highlighted. Look under Page “file size for selected drive” and click on Custom Size. Under the area that says “Total page file size for all drives section” look at the amount that says Recommended. The number that it says should be recommended just type that into both boxes where it says Initial Size and Maximum Size. Now click on Set, then Ok. For the next window just select Apply and Ok also.

Why Cleaning Up After Windows Can Make Your Slow Computer Faster

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Why is your computer slow? Well the answer to that question is beyond the scope of this text but I will tell you that it has to do with your computer building up junk in many different areas in time. The more of these areas that you clean up the faster your computer will be – it’s that simple. Take a look at registry cleaners – they are designed to clean up all of the junk and inefficiencies that build up in your registry to make it faster. The only problem with registry cleaners is that they focus on one area of your computer which will only give you so much of an advantage while there are many different areas of your computer that need to be cleaned. This is why using registry cleaners really aren’t a complete solution to making your computer faster – they only clean one small area while there are many different areas that need to be either cleaned or tuned for performance.

Your computer’s operating system (assuming its Windows based) is designed to use RAM as a temporary working place. Now when some of these files are in RAM they also need to work with other files temporarily and in order to do this they need to use a space on your hard drive. This space is folder called your Temp folder and when window’s is done working with files in the Temp folder it will just delete them. The problem comes when your computer crashes, freezes or you manually kill a program. The files that were in your computer’s Temp folder never got deleted and after time a lot of files can build in this folder and slow your computer down. All you have to do is to just go in there and delete them. Here’s how to do it:

If you are using Windows XP, close all running files and programs and then click Start, click on Run and type %Temp% in the box and hit enter. Now you’re going to get a window that will show you the contents of the Temp folder. Just delete everything that you can in that folder. If for some reason it says that you cannot delete a certain file, just skip it and move onto the next one.

If you are using Windows Vista, close all of your currently running programs and files and start off by clicking the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of the scree. Now type Run in the start menu search box. When the Run window comes up type %Temp% and hit the enter button. Now delete everything that you see in that folder. If there are some files that you cannot delete all you have to do is to just ignore them and then move onto the next one and start selecting those.

For the most part, this will free up some hard drive space which will make your computer run faster (your hard drive will have less files to take care of) and your computer will have less internal errors which is always a plus.

2 Small Tweaks To Get More Performance Out Of Windows Vista

Friday, July 16th, 2010

If you have switched over from XP to Vista you surly will have known by now that Vista is much slower. This lack of speed has to do with Vista dedicating a lot of its resources to trying to “look pretty”. Making the operating system look nice is great and all but when it comes time to actually get some work done it can be a huge problem. In this article I am going to show you two quick ways to make your Vista perform a it faster but you are going to have to be willing to sacrifice some of Vistas looks in order to get more function. Keep in mind that there really is no point in having your computer look really nice since you are the only person that is really going to be seeing it.

If you are using Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise or Ultimate, chances are that you have the Aero effect turned on. The Aero effect is designed to make your computer’s windows have more of a glass like effect to them, which no one really needs at all. It also enables Windows Flip 3D which is something that no one really needs (if you don’t know what Windows Flip 3D is, open a few windows, hold the Windows Button down and press the Tab button. You should be able to cycle through all of your currently opened windows in a fancy format). These features are really just pointless things that Windows has added to make your computer look really cool. Here’s how to get rid of the Aero effect:

What your going to want to do now is to click Start, click on the Control Panel and then on the left hand side make sure that the Control Panel Home is selected. Now click on Appearance and Personalize, click on the Personalize link, click on the Windows Color and Appearance and at the bottom of the window select “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”. A new window should appear and in this window where it has the Color Scheme drop down box just select Windows Vista Basic. Now click Apply and then OK and this should turn off the Aero effect.

The second thing that you probably don’t need that Vista has to offer is the sidebar. Now, unless you actually use the gadgets on the sidebar regularly (the clock doesn’t count, there’s one in the bottom right hand corner of your screen that is perfectly good) then I suggest that you get rid of it. It really serves no function to the average user except to make your computers desktop look cool. Here’s how to do it:Right click on the windows sidebar icon in the System Tray and select properties (the system tray is that little group of icons in the bottom right hand corner next to the clock). In the Windows Sidebar Properties dialog box uncheck the box the “Start Sidebar when Windows Starts” and select Apply and then OK. Now just right click on the Windows Sidebar Icon in the system tray again and select Exit.

By doing both of these things you have now given yourself some more resources to use which in the long run will make your computer faster.

Cleaning Up Your Registry With Error Doctor

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Everything has its share of glitches and nothing can ever withstand the test of time. Gadgets have made it easier for us to get things done in this modern time.

There are so many gadgets with amazing and revolutionary features but no matter, they still encounter those problems that really inconvenience us at times.

We have always used our computers with the internet side by side. Computers have allowed us to cut our working time in half and make our daily lives easier by allowing us to do things online like doing our shopping.

Communication has been more accessible with the internet. But this has made our computers quite vulnerable as well.

Every time we access the internet, we are susceptible to installing different malicious software such as spywares and adwares even without our knowledge.

The registry is a part of our computer that saves important computer information like system settings.

This problem is annoying as you will notice your computer working slower but the remedy is quite simple. All you need is to install an efficient registry cleaner.

In fact, just last week I was able to use a program called the Error Doctor to put my computer back into tip top condition.

There are two ways wherein the Error Doctor can work for you. First, it can do an auto-scan. By this I mean that the Error Doctor can scan your registry and then fix everything up automatically.

The second option is to run the same scan on your registry and then have you select from the list which errors you would want to fix.

As a user, I always have a feature which I look for in any registry cleaner that I purchase. That is the back up and undo feature. This feature makes it possible for me to restore my old settings if things do not work out well.

The Error Doctor saves a back up file of your registry which you can restore if the cleaning does not work out quite well.
