First of all, the Norton software makes my computer extremely slow to boot up, and I have a relatively new PC with lots of memory and CPU power. I try to open a browser, and I am not kidding I have sat and waited as long as 45 – 90 seconds before I could get a browser to open because there is so much memory being used from scanning going on in the background behind the scenes. Like 2010, this version is easy to use, idiot-proof, and worth every penny. It updates the antivirus definitions automatically, its default settings are not annoying in the least, and it scans automatically when your system isn’t being used.
I’m sure it grabs some resources, but in today’s era of high-powered personal computers, it’s not a problem. I’m glad I bought it.
These are very vanilla systems with almost nothing installed on them. The web sites that have crashed are not consistent and by no means dangerous sites. I hear Norton Ghost is just as flakey.
I also like the 3 PC capabilities. This is the second edition of Norton Security Suite that I have purchased from Amazon.
You can have as much, or as little, control as you want. I went through the default settings after installation and the only change I made was to not delete tracking cookies. For instance, it tells me if a particular program (like Firefox or Explorer) is hogging up an unusual amount of memory. It adds a “reputation” scan to determine the reliability and trustworthiness of your existing programs.
Amazon’s price was so good, and the “free partial featured products” don’t make sense. This one is the best so far. Unfortunately, their removal tool removes all history, settings, and worst of all, all quarantined files. In the brief period that the product worked before saying that it had expired, it moved four files into quarantine. I had been shopping Costco, Staples, Office Depot and Walmart. Amazon had the best price! The caveat is choose wisely, not all software is compatible and you may experience conflicts. Add Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware to NIS for a more confident internet experience.
However, after internet upgrade, you can enter the license code from the disc to extend the license for another year (just before your license period expires). I am not sure exactly how this all works, but you could try that.
I find this Norton’s Internet Security not only thorough but it runs quickly and is very user friendly. Then I got the Norton and replaced the McAfee and what a difference. Getting a bad disc was a pain but Norton took care of it. Also like to say that I have never had a virus or break-in of my computers since using it.
That first year, I bought it from Norton directly, and since they had my credit card, they defaulted me to auto-renewal. Sensitive Stomach Dog Food.
