Version control of all artifacts is important in any test management process. It doesn’t matter if you are using word, excel or a very clever bespoke application to track this information. Either way you must track changes made to records. The reason for this was highlighted recently when a supplier delivered a new software solution to a client. The client incurred some significant unexpected costs due to a defect in the software. As is usual in cases like this the project manage points the blame at the testing team. He demands to know why this defect wasn’t found during the validation and verification phase. Unhappy customer and an unhappy project manager. And, initially at least, an unhappy team wondering why they didn’t find such an obvious issue before release.

However, this team had a mature and effective test management process in place. They were able to quickly recreate the environment, product release and checks that should have found this defect. Good tracking of all these artifacts meant they could repeat this with confidence. In fact they could repeat this with exact versions of the artifacts that they used in the original setup.

Once the replication process was completed, the team was able to confidently show the client that the software was in fact, defect free. Once the facts were on the table, both parties were able to ascertain that it was because the client had the incorrect product in the first place. Even though the instructions on the packaging were crystal clear, someone was able to purchase, install and run the incorrect product, despite the straightforward installation directions.

It goes without saying that management breathed a sigh of relief that the error did not stand with the team. It also became apparent that the testing process that was in place was without flaws. Even though there was no admission of guilt, there was a fair amount of satisfaction from the project manager, as the team had met their goals successfully.

For the individual that designed this, it was an absolution of his conscientiousness and expertise that he could prove this. It’s a painful position for an employee to be in, when higher-ranking managers and consumers are looking to assign fault. It is even worse, when that team member has constantly delivered superior service, year after year. It does draw attention to the magnitude of a proficient test management system and superior control of all the objects used.

If you are a tester, could you with all honesty declare that in the event that all the cases and setups you create now could be completely recreated one year from now. Would you be able to pinpoint the exact location of the relevant information and elements required that you used previously. Would you be able to remember the exact element version that was used initially. Of course, you may need to know the precise release of the product being checked, as well as the cases. And it goes without saying that each and every version of each case used, will need to be located. As well as the arrangement and location you ran these elements on.

The most complex of these essentials, can be, administrating the cases. In one short year, all the cases one may have used could be unrecognizable. If you are unable to find the exact account that was previously used, it becomes abundantly clear that you do not have a duplicating process of testing management. It is very hard to incessantly follow the information daily. Definitely when on the odd occasion you may have to go back and use the information, it may very well seem like a wasted expense of effort and time. However, for those situations, you are going to really appreciate the time and hard work you put in, keeping detailed records and for having a sound test management procedure that keeps all the movements of the artifacts up to date.

Check out our website for details about the importance of version control in the test management process, now. You can also find information about the Test Complete software program at http://www.testmanagement.com today.

Zend Framework is a popular web development language based on PHP. It allows developers to quickly access vital information on environment variables and HTTP request information at all parts of the application.

There are few scenarios where using a singleton design pattern is deemed acceptable. Zend Framework uses it as a pattern for the front controller, and it works great for accessing request information from anywhere in the application. The reason most developers don’t use this pattern is because it may be abused, so be careful not to call the front controller where it shouldn’t be. A good example is with using logic code in the view: this goes against MVC principle.

If you do intend on getting URL parameters in a view, you have two options. The easiest is to use a view helper. The Server Url view helper allows developers to quickly access the current URL and URI. Other information can be accessed by passing the variables from your controller to your view. While technically you can still access the front controller, it goes against the entire design of Zend Framework to do so.

The controller extends the basic Zend Controller Action. With this class you can access HTTP request information through several different methods. You are able to access the scheme, domain, controller, action, path information, and parameters if they are present. You will have to piece all of these variables together to build a URI. It’s more work than in the view because we don’t use the view helper here.

The library files you work with likely will not extend the Zend Controller Action. Thus, you won’t have direct access to the request object. The good news is that the front controller is a singleton, as we discussed earlier. This means that all a developer needs to do is create a new instance of the object and then access the HTTP request just like in the controller. While this is very helpful, it’s recommended that developers not make their own singletons in this fashion.

To make things easier in getting a base URL, you may use a base URL helper. This allows you to quickly access a set base URL in any part of the application. You set this helper in the bootstrap and in your application configuration file. The base URL helper takes more time in setting up, but it’s a joy to have when working in the view to quickly piece together URL information.

In Conclusion

PHP makes it easy to access HTTP request information through global server variables. While that is easy, it’s not exactly considered ideal for MVC design. Use the Zend Framework implementation of the HTTP request object so your code is clean, concise, and consistent with the design goals of the Zend Framework project.

This Zend Framework tutorial was written by Chris Channing. See more of his development and thoughts on zend framework get url parameters.

There is a variety of database systems, the most popular of which are Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Firebird, and others.

Oracle is a major commercial management system, intended to solve complex problems. The database system is offered in various configurations, from enterprise-class versions to personalized ones. Produced by the Oracle Corporation, Oracle is based on individual processes that run in the background and monitor the database operations. These include logical standby coordinator process, system monitor process, recovery process, database writer process, dispatcher processes, etc. 63 language versions are available on the market.

MySQL represents a database management system for multiple users accessing different databases. It is used in many web applications such as LAMP as well as popular websites, including YouTube, Facebook, Wikipedia, and Flickr. Many of the features are not available with other database management systems. Among them are custom storage engines, native storage engines (e.g. InnoDB, Archive), and community-developed storage engines.

Produced by Microsoft, SQL Server boosts scalability, functionality, and security. The SQL Database generates databases for server-based operating systems working under Microsoft Windows. The user can access databases from the Internet, workstations, and other media.

PostgreSQL represents a database management system, which is an open source software. It comes with a variety of supported data types, including geometric primitives, variable length arrays, MAC addresses and CIDR blocks, and others. Almost any new type of object can be created inside the database. Examples are procedural languages, conversions, domains, functions, and indexes. The database management system has received a number of awards, including the 2008 Developer.com Product of the Year, Database Tool and the 2004 ArsTechnica Best Server Application Award. It is a preferred database management system of prominent users such as MySpace, Yahoo!, and Skype.

Firebird is another open source software that runs on Windows, Unix, and Linux. . It is written in C++The database management system comes with a variety of features, including incremental backups, support for external functions, careful writes, and referential activity. Other tools such as GUI administrative and replication tools are available as well. Multiple access methods are also featured – .Net provider, dbExpress drivers, Python module, and others. Users can choose from several variants of the database management system, including Firebird SuperServer, Firebird Embedded, and Firebird Classic. The first variant comes with a single server for client connections. Firebird Classic runs a single copy of the server for every client connection. Firebird Embedded can be used to generate evaluation or user versions of applications, CD-ROM catalogues, event notifications, and other advanced features. The database management system received the SourceForge Community Choice Award in 2009.

If you want to make your slow computer faster, then tuning your virtual memory would be a great place to start. You see, your hard drive is that place that your computer stores files like videos, picture etc… Your RAM on the other hand is the place that your computer’s programs work in. Its basically like a temporary working area. It’s a great system, but when your RAM gets full your computer has two choices: it can either tell you that you cannot open any more programs or it can find a new place to be used as the temporary working place. This is where virtual memory comes into play. Virutal memory is space on your computers hard drive that will be used the same way that your computer uses RAM

The name for this space on your hard drive is called a Paging File and is what you need to “tune” if you want to make your slow computer a bit faster. Your paging file is designed to be two different sizes that it moves in between: the Initial Size and the Maximum Size. Since these two sizes are constantly changing it causes your paging file to work inefficiently. All you have to do is to just make your paging file the same size and it will help you make your slow computer faster. Here’ what to do:

For those of you using Windows XP, click on the Start button, right click on My Computer and then select the Properties option. Now click on the Advanced tab at the top and then look under the little section that says Performance. Here is where you are going to click on the Settings option. When the window appears, click on the Advanced tab and under the Virtual Memory section, click on the Change option. Now look under the part where it says “Drive [Volume Label]” and make sure that your C: is selected (it should now be highlighted blue if you have selected it). Look under the Page file size for selected drive and select Custom Size.

Where it says “Total page file size for all drives section” look at the amount that says Recommended. What ever number it says is recommended, type that into both boxes where it says Initial Size and Maximum Size. Click Set and then Ok. Then Click Apply on the next window and OK.

If you are a Windows Vista user, start off by clicking Start. Now click on the Control Panel icon and on the left hand side make sure Classic View is selected. Double click on the System icon and on the left side of the window, click on the Advanced System Settings. Select the Advanced tab in that window and then under the small section that is labeled Performance just click on Settings. A new window should appear so just click on the Advanced tab and under the irtual Memory section, click on Change. Now uncheck the “Automatically manage paging file size for all drivers”. Pay attention to the area that says “Drive [Volume Label]” and make sure that C: is selected so that it is highlighted. Look under Page “file size for selected drive” and click on Custom Size. Under the area that says “Total page file size for all drives section” look at the amount that says Recommended. The number that it says should be recommended just type that into both boxes where it says Initial Size and Maximum Size. Now click on Set, then Ok. For the next window just select Apply and Ok also.

There is a great deal of registry cleaners on the market today. Choosing your registry cleaner can be done online with ease. It is important to know what a registry cleaner does for the performance of a computer and why you should get one. Do not get tricked into purchasing unwanted programs from scams or spam.

Getting a cleaner for your registry is a great thing to do for your computer. People find good programs online all the time. There are several internet websites to download popular cleaners from. Whenever hunting for new software always shop around. Some people get a cleaner one of their friends have had or one they have heard good things about by word of mouth. It is not a bad thing to stick with a program that you know for a fact works great.

The internet has a large amount of information that allows a person to find the right product to clean their registry. A good way to pick your cleaner is by checking ratings or reviews on these products. By checking several reviews you can decide if the software is right for you.

Almost all of the registry cleaning software that is available will warn you before permanently deleting any registry files. The warning will most likely be telling you that it is recommended to create a backup file of the entire registry as it originally is. To avoid corrupting a program by accidentally deleting their needed files is to create a registry backup.

All registry software cleans your computer of old and unwanted registry files. These unwanted or useless files take up space on your computer and may cause your computer to slow down and have poor performance. Files are left on your registry when programs or files are deleted. People should get registry cleaners to enhance their computers speed and to free up space.

The registry cleaning software has a slight chance of recognizing these types of files as useless and will prepare to delete them entirely when the registry scan has been completed. To avoid corrupting a program by accidentally deleting their needed files is to create a registry backup.

Most people think that when you uninstall a program that it is gone from your hard drive but in fact that is far from the truth. After uninstalling a program there are dozens of empty useless folders and registry files that are leftover and are not removed with the uninstall process. Using a registry cleaning software will help your computer run faster because there will be no blank files taking up needed room.

Registry cleaners provide some useful benefits and are basically a set of software applications that can be used to resolve certain Windows operating system problems. These software applications are able to remove any unwanted or even redundant items which in turn help to ensure that the Windows registry is restored to its proper functional state. However, not everyone agrees that there is need to use such applications and those that oppose its use mention that these programs are neither useful nor even necessary.

Registry cleaners are used to solve problems related to the elimination of configuration data from the Windows registry, especially that information that is no longer required or wanted by the Windows operating system. The data to be removed can be information that has been left behind by software that has not been uninstalled and it can also be information that is redundant or even settings that malware use to do damage to the computer. Cleaning up the registry will help in picking out unnecessary values which will then be repaired or even deleted.

Software applications that help in clearing out the registry provide users with some notable benefits not least of which are that of improving the functionality of the computer which will work much more efficiently after the registry has been cleaned up. The computer registry contains complex and lots of information which means that manually sifting through this information is not an easy task.

Therefore, there is need to automate this function which is done through registry cleaners that will search out the different invalid entries and other things including broken links and missing references. After locating this information the cleaner will resolve the issue and clean up the registry.

Correcting registry keys that are invalid can prove to be very beneficial which is why such software programs are much in demand. Some of these cleaners can also do other services such as backing up the hard drive and also restoring certain functions that will help to restore the registry to a state before any changes were made. This is especially useful when some changes are made but which are undesirable and so it is necessary to restore the registry to its original condition.

For people that add and remove programs often there is need to use the cleaning software applications in order to keep the registry clean and uncluttered with useless information.

There are a few downsides to using such software as well. The biggest such downside is that the cleaner does not address the severity of the fault and can easily flag an error (erroneously) as being critical when in actual fact there is nothing serious wrong. So, before using such software, it makes sense to determine whether using such programs is desirable or even necessary.

Anyone who is familiar with computers is well aware of the registry in their machine. It is the database, sometimes called the brain of the computer, and holds all the memory of what is entered in the machine. Registry cleaners are software specifically designed for the Microsoft Windows operating system to keep it running smoothly.

Registry in this PC is responsible for holding a huge number of settings and can lead to a large amount of problems if it is not cleaned on a regular basis. Things such as broken links, invalid entries, missing references and other such things can occur. Finding the right registry cleaner for this task is very important.

Problems sometimes encountered with the registry can include such things as the system crashing, numerous errors in operation and the computer suddenly ‘freezing up’. This causes not only an interruption of one’s work but complete frustration with the breakdown of the system. Being in the middle of important work and suddenly have a blank screen can be devastating.

This software is designed to remove repeated or undesired items from the Windows registry. This might include something left over from previous removed software or other problems. The frequency in which this cleaner is to be used varies. For this reason, a person having problems with their computer should have someone analyze the situation and recommend the correct steps to be taken.

With the large number of these cleaners on the market today, one has a wide choice of selection and should carefully read what each company says about its product. Having one that scans for invalid or obsolete information and then lists the errors found is a good choice. With this backup of errors one can then retrieve anything that was removed should the need arise.

When a registry goes on the blink, everything in the machine can go into default and fail to work properly. In extreme occurrences, one might not be able to boot their machine and have to call in a computer technician to get it running properly. This technician will use a registry cleaner to get things back in working order but this usually turns out to be rather expensive when done by an expert.

It is obvious, with the complicated structure of a computer, that it must be properly cared for if it is to operate smoothly and do the job for which it was purchased. To keep this machine in tiptop condition, having the proper software for this purpose is important. Fortunately, one can find a number of companies with this software available.

The computer of today stores data in huge amounts. This has replaced the many hours of handwriting that was required, before it became available for everyone’s use. Having this data secure against any loss is essential in today’s world. For this reason, every effort should be made to keep this information readily available and safe. Keeping one’s computer in first class working order with software can be done with registry cleaners.

Find more details about the importance of registry cleaners and their benefits today! You can choose the best for you from the many registry cleaners reviewed now.

Registry cleaners are one of the controversial topics among computer users.

Registry cleaners are one of the controversial topics among computer users. Some claim the regular use of them is necessary for optimal computer performance, increasing speed and disk space. Others claim they do more harm than good, and should be avoided at all costs.

Registry cleaners basically scan your computers registry for entries like malaware, invalid or unused files, DLL files that may not be of use, and corrupted or fragmented files. They then delete these files, and the theory then is that your computer will run faster and will have less problems. However, the questions arise – is all this cleaning really necessary? Are you given the option of manually removing the files that are listed as unnecessary and harmful?

Using a registry cleaner can be dangerous, according to some experts. It may remove files that are necessary for programs to load or perform properly. It can even cause a full system crash. They state that the best results may be the gain of a few kilobytes of disk space, and maybe a faster start up. However, with the storage and disk space on most computers that is a negligible result. Are these programs just ’snake oil, ‘ as one expert reviewer has stated?

It is possible that the free trials of cleaners give ambiguous information about registry errors, in hopes you will buy the program. Once installed and run, you may find that your computer is faster, and loads better. However, alternatively, you just may find that it has removed some necessary registry entries and you have lost or impaired functionality. Running the program will probably not speed up your computer noticeably, and you may even find it slower because it fragments the registry.

Most of the registry cleaners on the market claim that you will need to run the program periodically in order to keep your registry clean and free of errors. However, just because there are a few orphaned entries and files, they do not affect your computer’s speed or performance in a noticeable way. It may even mark some ‘good’ files as bad, and schedule them for removal.

Experts advise that if you feel the need to fix your registry, you should do it manually. If you don’t have the skill, then either leave it alone or hire an expert to do it for you. Do not rely on registry cleaners that may have received some good reviews, but have little in the way of real hard data to back up their claims.

Instead, to avoid problems, install only licensed programs to your system, and keep them up to date. Back up your critical data regularly. Be very cautious about installing and uninstalling trial or beta software programs. Always have a good anti-virus and malaware system running, and keep its files updated. Regularly defragment your system and delete temporary files. Just these simple stems will keep your system cleaner, and you won’t need to consider the dilemma of whether or not to use registry cleaners.

Are you tired of registry cleaners that don’t work and ruin files that are critical? Well, with our software, you won’t have to worry.

Having a slow computer can be very frustrating. If you like me, you are probably trying to do just about everything in order to speed up the process of what it is that you are doing. One of the best ways to do this is to get to your most commonly used applications as quickly as possible. Just think of how much time is wasted when you are looking all over your computer trying to find the applications that you use all of the time.

If you were to add up all of that time spent looking around your computer it would eventually accumulate to a fair bit by the end of the week. So what’s the alternative? In this article I’m going to show you two little tricks that you can do so that you will be able to find your applications much quicker.

Let’s start with the quick launch (the quick launch is the group of icons that are right beside your start button). If you don’t see a group of icons right beside your start menu, just right click on the taskbar and select Properties and then select Show Quick Launch. In order to do anything you are going to have to unlock the quick launch and to do that, just right click on the task bar and select Lock Taskbar. Now you should see dotted lines which will allow you to resize it. Now find the top 3 applications that you frequently use by going through your All Programs list in the start menu and right click on their icons and select Copy. Now go to your desktop, right click and select Paste. You should now see a copy of that icon on your desktop – just drag it into the quick launch area and the icon should be in bottom right hand corner next to the start menu (you can delete the shortcut that you copied to your desktop now since you will not be needing it). Now when you start up your computer or just log on you don’t have to look all over the place those 3 programs – there right in front of you.

Now let’s work with the Start menu. If you click on your start menu you will notice that there is a faint horizontal line on the left hand side. Everything that is above this line is permanent unless you manually remove them and below this line are programs that you have most recently used. What you’re going to want to do here is to add 3-5 programs that you use regularly to the permanent (the top part) of the list. Just go to the All Programs on the start menu, right click on the program icon and select “Pin To Start Menu”. This will then put it on the permanent part of the start menu so that you can quickly get to them without having to search around your messy desktop.

Another thing that you can do is to spend some time cleaning up your desktop. Only keep icons for programs – everything else, like random files, you should either delete or place into folders so that they are completely organized and in order so when you go looking for them you know exactly where they are.

Most computers will slow down within time and its actually natural for them do this. There reason for this is because when you first get your computer, it’s fresh and new. Then after time of being used junk will start to build up on it.

This “junk” is what causes it to slow down and is the main reason as to why you have a slow computer. The less junk that you have on your computer, the faster it will run. It’s that simple. This is why it is critical that you perform regular maintenance tasks on your computer to keep it in tip top shape.

So where do you start? One of the best places to start is with your hard drive. Your hard drive stores all of your files and if it fails, then you loose all of your files. This is why keeping your hard drive in a healthy state is critical. To do this we are going to use a programs that comes build into Windows.

Click Start, open My Computer (if your using Vista just click on Computer), right click on the C: and select Properties. In the Properties window, select the Tools tab and then click on the Check Now button. In the Check Disk window, select “Automatically Fix File System Errors” and also select “Scan For And Attempt To Recover For Bad Sectors”. Click start and if it says that you need to perform a restart, just restart your computer and when you come back it will launch the program.

What this program is really doing is it is looking at the different parts of your hard drive to see which parts have problems like bad clusters or bad sectors. Then what it does is it will try and fix these problems before they grow into larger problems that might endanger the hard drive. Most of these problems arise from common things like not turning off your computer properly or even your computer freezing. I suggest doing this about once a month to get the most out of your hard drive and also to make your slow computer faster.
